Lady Roos win district
The Weatherford Lady Roos captured the District 3-6A championship behind the running of individual champion Remington Boone. She ran the 5K course in 18:56.37.
The entire Lady Roos team advances to the 6A Region I Meet on Nov. 21 at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock. From there the top four teams and top 10 individuals qualify for state on Saturday, Nov. 1 at Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock.
Ivy Scott placed fourth for the Lady Roos, clocking 20:31.13, and Cayleigh Madrid was fifth with 20:35.63.
For the Kangaroos, Aiden Breaux qualified individually, placing eighth with a time of 17:23.96.
The junior varsity girls placed second, led by Chloe Burton in fourth with a 23:02.10, while Makayla Alvarado was fifth with 23:05.33. The JV boys were third, paced by Aiden Houghton in second with 18:26.93, Girardo Miranda was seventh with 19:07.23, and Daniel Brown placed eighth in 19:13.57.
Lady Roos close to playoff berth
With their 25-20, 17-25, 25-18, 25-23 win at home over Boswell on Oct. 7, the Lady Roos moved to within one win of clinching a playoff spot. They are second in District 3-6A with a 6-2 record (21-12 overall).
Weatherford was playing at press time at league-leading Mansfield. They host North Crowley on Oct. 17, host Crowley on Oct. 21, and end the regular season at Mansfield Lake Ridge on Oct. 21.
Kangaroos on road at defending state champs
The Kangaroos (1-5 overall, 0-2 in District 3-6A) had this past Friday off. They return to action on Oct. 17 at North Crowley (5-1, 2-0), the defending Class 6A Division I state champions.
Kickoff is 7 p.m.
Kangaroos third in tourney
The Kangaroos varsity opened their fall golf season with a third-place finish at the Texan Classic hosted by Champions Circle Golf Club. They posted a team scores of 321.
Sophomore Madden Ward led Weatherford, shooting 4-over-par 75.
