What a difference a week makes as the Weatherford Kangaroos blew out Arlington Sam Houston 59-10 on homecoming Friday, Sept. 25.
The Roos got off to a great start. The defense got a stop and Weatherford's offense then went on to score on its first drive. On a run-pass option play, quarterback Braelyn Jones hit receiver Reed Tidwell on a slant route he took 39 yards for a touchdown.
The sequence repeated later in the quarter. The Roos scored on their second drive as running back D.J. Quimby scored on a short run to go up 14-0.
Sam Houston's offense, with its starting running back limited, gave the ball to playmaker Jermaine Bingham on several direct wildcat formation snaps. Bingham burst up the middle on third-and-short and broke away for a 55-yard touchdown run to cut the lead to 14-7.
The momentum was quickly gained back by Weatherford as Quimby scored on a 23-yard run to increase the Roos' lead to 21-7 heading into the second quarter.
Weatherford's defense got a stop on fourth down in its own territory and that was the end of the Texans’ commitment to the wildcat formation.

The Roos offense kept its groove going as Quimby again scored on a 21-yard run to increase the lead to 28-7.
Weatherford's offense finally was stopped from scoring a touchdown on its next possession, but still got points as kicker Joseph Marino kicked a 28-yard field goal.
The Roo offense got the ball back with less than a minute before halftime, but fumbled the ball away. The defense then got in on the scoring as Carson Goff intercepted a pass and returned it 81 yards for a touchdown. Weatherford went into halftime up 38-7.
The Roos did not come out into the third quarter looking to let off the gas despite the lead. The offense scored on its first possession as Jones found Jakob Hemphill open on a 31-yard touchdown pass.
The Weatherford defense also forced another turnover as Levi Hall recovered a fumble and returned it 20 yards into Texan territory. The offense took advantage as Jones later found Quimby wide open on a five-yard touchdown throw as Weatherford's lead grew to 52-7.
The Roos scored once more in the third quarter. After the snap on a punt went over the Sam Housston punter's head, he recovered it at his own 14 yard line. The next play Weatherford scored as Jones flipped a pass to Eli Garrett who scored, making it 59-7.
The backups came in for Weatherford. The offense was forced to punt for the first time and Sam Houston's Alexander Opare came through to block it. That led to a 25-yard field goal from the Texans as they cut the lead to 59-10.

It was Weatherford's first win on homecoming since 2022. The Roos’ record improves to 3-2 on the season and 1-1 in district as they head into their bye-week.
Weatherford coach Marshall Williams sang the praises of his players for coming out and dominating from the start.
"All the credit goes to these kids," Williams said. "We as coaches and me as head coach try to send a message. We try to harp on the message all week, but it's really up to the kids and their families to uphold it, and they did a phenomenal job this week. A lot of homecoming, I don't want to say distractions, but there are a lot of things that go on with homecoming besides the game. These kids did a phenomenal job of coming out, playing fast with confidence and executing the game plan."
