The Lady Roos beat the Lady Tigers 4-0 a week after playing their last game during spring break.
Weatherford lost to both Lake Ridge (9-4) and Boswell (3-1) last week to in the team’s first district losses, but the break since then proved to be just what the team needed.
The Lady Roos got off to a great start in the first inning. After back-to-back fielding errors for Mansfield got two runners on base, Mia Coleman hit a two RBI double. An error on the throw back into the infield allowed Coleman to reach third base. Next batter Katie Chappell drove her in despite grounding out.
Weatherford led 3-0.
The Lady Roo defense was able to hold on from there. Weatherford added one more run in the sixth inning. Joey Gross hit a one out double. A wild pitch allowed her to move to third base where Mickenna Adkins drove her in despite grounding out at first base.
The Lady Roos won 4-0.
Coleman led the team with two RBIs while Chappell and Adkins each drove in one. Gross led the team with two hits as Weatherford finished with six hits while drawing one walk.
On the mound, Kendall Jones pitched two hit shutout while striking out 12 batters and walking three. The defense behind her committed no fielding errors.
Weatherford’s win improved its district record to 4-2 which definitely has the team in a playoff hunt.
