Posted

The Weatherford Kangaroos got some revenge with a big win against Denton Boswell on April 17, but fell to Mansfield on April 20 in a game the team needed in trying to make a playoff push.

The Kangaroos beat down the Pioneers 10-2, but fell to the Tigers 7-2.

Weatherford had lost the first game of the series against Boswell 4-2 on the road, but made sure the second game took a different tone.

In the first inning, Logan Chaix hit a ground ball to second base that resulted in an error that drove home one run to give the Kangaroos an early 1-0 lead. The second inning saw Fabian Ortega drive in a run with a single up the middle to extend the lead to 2-0.

In the third inning, the Pioneers cut the lead in half with an RBI single to make the score 2-1. Weatherford got some breathing room in the fourth inning as Chaix drove in a run with a double hit to left field. Next batter Jett Vindiola then hit a two-run home run over the wall to put the Kangaroos up 5-1.

Weatherford kept the momentum going in the fifth inning. After loading the bases with only one out, Brayden Lara drew a walk to score one run. Next batter Ortega hit a single that drove in another run.

During the next at-bat, two wild pitches allowed two runs to score before Chaix hit a sacrifice fly ball that drove in another run. The Kangaroos lead was up to 10-1.

Boswell got some momentum back with a solo home run shot in the sixth inning. Weatherford bats had cooled off, but its pitching and defense held on to win 10-2.

Ortega, Chaix and Vindiola each drove in two runs to lead the team. Ortega had a team high four hits and scored three runs. As a team the Kangaroos finished with nine hits, drew seven walks and stole four bases.

On the mound, Landon Carlisle pitched six innings, allowing two runs on two hits while striking out 15 batters.

Mansfield

Weatherford went into the next series needing to win both games against Mansfield for a chance to make the playoffs. Unfortunately, game one did not go that way despite a promising start.

Cutter Kennedy came through with a runner on base with two outs with a single that put the Kangaroos ahead 1-0 in the first inning.

The Tigers came back in the second inning scoring two runs with two RBI singles take the lead 2-1. They added to the lead in the third inning with a solo home run shot to make it 3-1.

Weatherford got the run back in the same inning. Chaix hit a double. The throw back into the infield resulted in an error which allowed one run to come in and score to cut the lead to 3-2.

It was a one-run game up until the final inning. Mansfield got some insurance runs adding a three RBI double and an RBI single to go ahead 7-2. Weatherford could not answer back in its final at-bats.

Kennedy led the team with one RBI while Ortega had a team high three hits. The Kangaroos finished with seven hits and three walks in the game.

On the mound, Kennedy pitched six innings and allowed three runs on five hits while striking out eight.
