15 Ladycats named all-district soccer

Weimer, Mourer receive superlatives

After winning a second consecutive District 5-5A championship, the Aledo Ladycats soccer team garnered 15 accolades from the league’s coaches.

Topping the list were junior Allyson Weimer as Offensive MVP and senior Haley Mourer as Co-Goalkeeper of the Year. Mourer, who began the season playing in the field, stepped into the starting goalkeeper position after the first two keepers both suffered an injury.

Selected for the first team were seniors Reese Harz and Addison Clark, juniors Lillie Gideon and Alexa Plantz, along with sophomore Avery Sands. 

Second-team honors went to juniors Baylee Velarde and Kylee Vandiver, with sophomores Abigail Cates, Kendall Holcomb, and Jordan Wright. Honorable mentions are juniors Jetta Hess and Ainsley Elmore, as well as sophomore Eden Anderson.

The Ladycats finished 13-7-2 overall and won district with a 10-0-2 record, advancing to the bidistrict round of the playoffs.

Elms finalist for TABC award

Aledo Ladycats assistant basketball coach Tracy Elms was a finalist for the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Assistant Coach of the Year. She helped Aledo to a 25-9 record, including a 12-0 record to win District 5-5A, and a third round playoff appearance.

TGCA All-Star

Brooklyn Dempsey, a junior on the Aledo Ladycats basketball team, has been named a Texas Girls Coaches Association All-Star. She will play for the Class 5A-6A Red Team at this summer’s coaching clinic all-star game at 7 p.m. on July 18. Arlington High School.

TGCA All-State

Seniors Tiarra Butler and Elizabeth Griffin have been named Class 5A All-State in basketball by the Texas Girls Coaches Association. 

Academic all-state honors for Aledo went to (all seniors) Brenna Clock, Mesoma Emeka-Okoye, Jaylee Owens, and Griffin. Honored from Weatherford in Class 6A were Olivia Dean, Gracie Hull, and Jada Martin.

Also, senior Carol Slough of Aledo was named academic all-state support staff.

Spirit award

Senior cheerleader Emma Brown of Weatherford was named Class 6A All-State by the TGCA.
