Weatherford Art Association announces Artist of the Month winners for July

Posted

The Weatherford Art Association has announced the winners of Artist of the Month for July. Each month, WAA members can compete for first, second, and third place ribbons and the opportunity to showcase their artwork at local Weatherford banks and The Doss Heritage and Culture Center.

Artist of the Month first place winners are eligible to compete for the Artist of the Year award, which is voted on by online proxy every June.

First place was awarded to artist Becky Anthony with her oil painting “Heading to the Barn.” Becky was inspired by a photo she took many years ago of this rustic beautiful landscape. She decided that a few horses needed to be added to complete it. She has been working hard on adding beautiful clouds in her pieces lately, as evident in this piece. Becky’s piece will be featured at The Doss Heritage and Culture Center throughout July.

Second place went to Dale Smith with her oil painting “Beauty.” Dale loves painting horses and fell in love with this particular draft horse. She just had to portray its beauty in a piece of art. Dale’s piece will be on display at the First Bank Texas in Weatherford through the month of July.

Third place honors were awarded to Linda Hidalgo with her watercolor “Temple Dog.” This piece was inspired by a statue at the Chandor Gardens. Linda says that the technique was out of her comfort zone, and it took her a while to get the painting exactly how she wanted it, but it was worth how the beautiful piece came together. View Linda’s work in July, at the Fort Worth Community Credit Union on South Main Street in Weatherford.

As part of its mission as a non-profit 501 © (3) corporation, the Weatherford Art Association provides monthly demonstrations to increase the knowledge of its members and support arts education for the community. Its monthly meetings are held from 6-7:45 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month except December at the Senior Center, 1225 Holland Lake Drive in Weatherford.
