Bearcats, Eagles in top five in state
In this week’s Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association state rankings Aledo and Brock are again among the top five in their respective classifications. The Bearcats entered the week 19-2 and are No. 4 in Class 5A, while the Eagles were 13-3 and ranked No. 3 in Class 4A.
WC’s Waid earns Player of the Week
A redshirt sophomore from Texarkana, Arkansas, Weatherford College Coyote Ty Waid is the NTJCAC Position Player of the Week. He joins Walt Jones as WC’s second player to earn a POTW recognition.
Waid is currently fifth in the nation for home runs, with a .692 batting average. In the Coyotes recent matchup against Ranger College, he hit two doubles, three home runs, and brought in 12 runners. He also scored eight runs and drew three walks. He recorded an OPS of 2.303 and had a slugging percentage of 1.538.
Four Kangaroos named all-district
Four members of Weatherford Kangaroos were named to the All-District 3-6A team by the league’s coaches. Kamryn McDonald was named to the first team and Rondy Dunn was chosen for the second team, while Aidan Pool and Bryce Atkinson are honorable mentions.
Lady Roos garner all-district accolades
Several members of the Weatherford Lady Kangaroos were named to the All-District 3-6A Team by the league’s coaches. They are:
Camren Freas-Lewis: Utility Player of the Year.
Addyson McElhaney: Offensive Player of the Year.
Landree Cooper: Midfielder of the Year (second year).
First team: Mia Saldivar, Jayden Wright, Raleigh Boone, Emma Johnson, Stella Adams.
Second team: Quinn Kahlden, Morgan Banfield, Mariana Diaz, Brylee Hernandez.
Honorable mention: Accailia Rogers, Cambrie Hurley, Haley Wolfsen.
Lady Roos eliminated from playoffs
The Weatherford Lady Roos dropped their Class 6A second round playoffs match to Midland, 3-1, on March 24. They finished with an 18-3-3 record.
Over the past three seasons the Lady Roos have compiled a 53-7-7 record.
Morgan wins JV district
Aledo’s Collier Morgan shot an 83 at Squaw Creek Golf Course on March 23 to win low medalist District 5-5A Junior Varsity Boys Golf Tournament. Bentley Beurerlin posted an 88 for third.
The Ladycats JV finished fourth as a team with a score of 433. They were led by Lilly Castillo’s 108.
TCA duo among top 10
In a recent competition, Willow Park Trinity Christian’s Cameron Smith and London Dunn placed in the top five of their respective competitions.
Dunn won the Lady Junior Varsity division. Smith was third in Boys Intermediate Advanced.
WC women win first at Ranger
Weatherford College captured the women’s team championship at the Ranger College Rodeo recently, finishing first overall behind two individual event titles and several strong placings.
Jacee Graff led the way by winning goat tying with a two-round total of 12.6 seconds, while Kacey Bass claimed the barrel racing title with a combined time of 30.33 seconds.
On the men’s side, WC also posted a victory in team roping, as Mason Stueve teamed with Cisco College’s Brit Bradford to win the event with a total time of 10.9 seconds.
Several other Coyotes earned top-five finishes. Shane Scott placed second in bull riding, while Jett Stewart and Beldon Cox finished second in team roping. Wyatt Nuce took third in bull riding, and Jace Stout added a third-place finish in saddle bronc riding.
With the result, Weatherford’s women’s and men’s teams both sit second in the Lone Star Region standings with two rodeos remaining in the regular season.
The Coyotes will next compete at the Pecos College Rodeo, April 9–11 in Pecos, followed by the Tarleton Stampede, April 16–18 in Stephenville.
Roos duo qualifies for regionals
Weatherford competed in the District 3-6A Tournament last week. Addy Patterson and Will Snider finished second in mixed doubles and qualified for the 6A Region I Tournament.
Also for Weatherford, Landry Hebbe and Lydia Nader placed third in girls doubles.
