The Lady Roos lost to the Lady Eagles 12-4 and were run-ruled by the Lady Pioneers 13-3 after five innings.
Weatherford was coming off a big run-rule win against North Crowley heading into the game against Lake Ridge and knew it would be tough since the Lady Eagles had won the first match up by five runs.
Lake Ridge got off to a good start, scoring three runs on a two RBI single and an RBI double. The Lady Roos answered in the first inning as Cassara Perdue came through with a two RBI single to cut the lead to 3-2.
Both teams added one run in the third inning. The Lady Eagles hit an RBI double and Weatherford’s Mia Coleman hit a solo home run to make it 4-3. The fifth inning saw Lake Ridge extend its lead with a two-run home run. The Lady Roos got one run back in the same inning with Katie Chappell hitting an RBI single. The score was 6-4.
In the final inning, the Lady Eagles ran away with the game, scoring six runs thanks to a single, a fielding error, a sacrifice fly ball and a three-run home run. Weatherford could not answer as Lake Ridge won with the final score 12-4.
Perdue led the team with two RBIs while Coleman hit a solo home run and Chappel also drove in a run. As a team, Weatherford finished with nine hits.
Defensively, the Lady Roos gave up 13 hits while committing six fielding errors.
Weatherford was hoping to play better in its home district game of the season, but Boswell did not allow it.
The Lady Pioneers scored in the first inning on an RBI single and a two-run home run to go up 3-0. The Lady Roos got one run back in the same inning with Coleman hitting a sacrifice fly ball to cut the lead to 3-1.
A fielding error in right field allowed two runs to score for Boswell in the second inning, upping its lead to 5-1. Weatherford cut the lead down a bit with Perdue hitting an RBI single in the third inning to make the score 5-2. The Lady Roos made it closer in the fourth inning with Gracie Hull laying down a bunt that not only drove in a run, but she also beat out the throw for a hit. Weatherford trailed 5-3.
Unfortunately, Weatherford’s defense started to spiral in the following inning as the Lady Pioneers went on a tear. Boswell scored eight runs on a two-run home run, one triple, one double, four singles and two fielding errors.
The Lady Pioneers led 13-3 and were threatening to end the game early unless the Lady Roos could score one run. Weatherford got two base runners on third and second base, but could not get them home as the game ended early.
Coleman, Perdue and Hull each drove in one run each. Jada Martin scored two runs and hit a double to lead the team. Weatherford finished with six hits.
Defensively, the Lady Roos gave up 12 hits and committed six fielding errors in the game.
The defense will hope to play better in its final district game at Mansfield, scheduled for 7 p.m. on April 17.
Weatherford is sitting in fourth place in district and will be moving on to the postseason where the bi-district series will be needed to be complete by April 25. Look to the Community News social media for future playoff information.
