Richardson Pearce and Weatherford combined for nearly 1,000 yards of offense as the Mustangs outscored the Kangaroos 55-37 at Roo Stadium Friday night. Pearce totaled 508 yards and Weatherford had 463.
After completing eight of nine passes and a touchdown, senior Kangaroo quarterback CJ Thornton left the game due to injury in the first half and never returned. He suffered a shoulder injury and is expected to miss at least a month.
The Kangaroos and Mustangs traded touchdowns through much of the first half, including a 60-yarder from Pearce quarterback Presley Harper to Noah Self. Pearce scored 27 unanswered points to put the game out of reach.
Harper was 20-of-30 for 297 yards and three touchdowns.
Roo running back JoJo Polk put up 133 yards on 20 carries with one touchdown and Colton McClure added 78 yards and a score. Wide receiver Xavier Holder caught five passes for 109 yards.
Weatherford dropped to 1-1; Pearce improved to 2-0.
The Kangaroos face Burleson on the road Friday night. The 0-2 Elks are now coached by Chad Worrell, former Brock head coach who led the Eagles to a state championship in 2015 and a state finals appearance in 2017.
