If you have gone to any sporting or community event in Weatherford for the past 17 years, chances are you will have seen one man and his camera capturing memories.
Randy Cutshall just celebrated his 20th year in September working his day job at Jerry Durant Auto Group. That job is what brought him to Weatherford after spending most of his life in Fort Worth. Cutshall’s family of three daughters, eight grandkids and one great-grandkid live in the Northeast part of Fort Worth.
“I’m a Fort Worth kid,” Cutshall said. “I went to Arlington Heights, graduated from there and then I pretty much stayed in this area.”
Cutshall got his start with photography when he was 12 years old.
“I can't draw; I can't sing; can't play an instrument; but I could always take a picture and I love having a memory of whatever it was I was taking a picture of,” Cutshall said. “I just felt that it gave me an outlet and as years went along, it's been more like therapy to me. I just love what I get to do for the kids and the family and the community and it's been lots and lots of fun.”
With his job eventually requiring him to go to Weatherford High School sporting events after three years, Cutshall found out he loved everything about it.
“We were needing stuff for co-op money for the dealership,” Cutshall said. “So I'd go out and take football pictures, baseball pictures, basketball pictures, those were the main ones. Then it just filtered into every other sport that there was at Weatherford, and then it just kind of filtered into what I do now. Just the love of taking these pictures for all these kids and families and stuff has been wonderful.”
It is not just high school sporting events where you will find Cutshall and his lens.
“I do everything from Taste of Education, stuff for the city of Weatherford, the rodeo, pro rodeo or PRCA or for the sheriff’s posse, for the PBR,” Cutshall said. “The chamber of commerce, plus whatever Mr. Durant wants. His horses, his land, whatever he needs.”
His day-job compensates him well enough for the picture-taking aspect of his job, but the photos he takes out in the community he refuses to take money for, posting them for free on his Facebook page, Randy Cutshall Photography.
“I love the feeling of seeing people love the pictures,” Cutshall said. “I love to hear people say, ‘You got a picture of my child and he never gets a picture taken,’ or just the enjoyment that I see these kids and families and stuff when you take their picture of whatever event it may be. It could be a parade and they just love the pictures. That's my pay right there.”
Giving back to the people and the community he has called home for the past 20 years, he said, is the least he can do.
“They’re the most wonderful people on earth,” Cutshall said. “They’re down to earth, easygoing. They love life. This community is a very blessed community and it’s a very peaceful community and I love it. I love everything about it, but the thing for me probably the most is the people and it always will be.”
