The stage was set as a capacity crowd filled the Malt Shop’s site waiting for WFAA’s Paige Smith to cue them for a live segment on “Good Morning, Texas.”

Breakfast was being served to the faithful who arrived early on Tuesday, July 15. The parking lot was filled to overflowing with classic cars, motorcycles, and custom vehicles.

All decked out in a western-themed — a nod to Weatherford’s heritage —poodle skirt, Smith beamed as she was greeted with a rowdy hello.

“I came to share Weatherford with our audience,” Smith said, “ It’s all about community and I see Weatherford does it well.”

The Weatherford Fire Department arrived to lift the American flag high above the celebration.

The Shop’s familiar bee-bop music served as a backdrop until Anthem Summerville treated customers with her live rendition of the old favorites.

A Parker County treasure since the 1950s, the Shop gained notoriety when it was sold in March. New owner, David Hart, said he intended to restore the Shop to its former glory by including families and young ones to enjoy its charm. He put out the call for all those interested to help with the facelift.

“I was amazed, and still am, by the overwhelming response” said Hart. The Shop’s signature pink paint was refreshed, the parking lot was expanded and paved, grass was donated to the play area, while picnic tables were painted by local businesses and civic groups. Generations of families have long appreciated the Malt Shop’s burgers and ice cream.

At precisely 9 am, cameras were rolling, introducing the Malt Shop to the Metroplex.
