As the Aledo Bearcats take the field Friday night I will be passing the gavel as the president of the National Newspaper Association Foundation to Jeanne Straus of Chester, New York.
It has been my honor and privilege to serve in this capacity for the past two years, and I wish you had the opportunity to know the people in this organization the way I do.
Local community news people (I used to say “newspaper people,” but “paper” no longer adequately describes what we do).
There is a saying that “if it was easy, everybody would be doing it.” That applies to my peers in this industry.
They all love their communities. They go to work every day with the wind in their face and they all do a lot with a little.
I would venture to say we are all considered “small business.” Certainly none of us are multinational conglomerates.
Wherever you live, whether in Parker County or in Chester, New York, I hope the public understands the importance of what these people do, and the dedication they have to their readers and communities.
Randy Keck is owner and publisher of The Community News.
