The Weatherford Art Association (WAA) is proud to shine a spotlight on this month’s winning artists. Each month, members compete for ribbons and the chance to showcase their work at local venues, with first-place winners advancing toward the prestigious “Artist of the Year” honor in June.

First Place – Kathy Cunning

Taking top honors this month is Kathy Cunning with her gouache painting “Hoosegow.” Inspired by a trip to the Pennsylvania State Prison, Kathy captures the stark reality of metal structures with an almost photographic precision. Her award-winning piece will be on display at The Doss Heritage and Culture Center throughout October.

Second Place – Ann Feriend

The second-place ribbon goes to Ann Feriend for her watercolor, “Old Tractor’s Paradise.” Ann drew inspiration from a farm she passes daily, painting a heartwarming Texas scene complete with a weathered tractor, blooming bluebonnets, and a proud Lone Star flag. You can view her work this month at First Bank Texas in Weatherford.

Third Place – Rita Bodiford

Earning third place is Rita Bodiford with her watercolor, “Are You My Mother.” The piece depicts a curious lamb peeking through tall grass and brush, capturing both innocence and playfulness. Rita’s work will be featured at the Fort Worth Community Credit Union on South Main Street in Weatherford this October.

As a nonprofit 501©(3), the Weatherford Art Association is dedicated to nurturing creativity and supporting art education in our community. Join us for monthly art demonstrations and meetings at the Senior Center (1225 Holland Lake Drive, Weatherford) on the fourth Monday of each month (except December), 6:00–7:45 p.m. Learn more at weatherfordart.com.
