The Weatherford Art Association (WAA) announced the winners of its June Artist of the Month competition, highlighting the creativity and talent of its local artist members.
First Place was awarded to Kathy Cunning for her watercolor painting “Just a Little Off The Top,” a vivid portrait capturing the concentration of the artist’s sister cutting her great nephew’s hair, its rich colors and close-up perspective drawing the viewers into an intimate everyday moment. Cunning’s winning artwork will be exhibited at the Weatherford City Hall throughout June.
Second Place honors went to Jerry Shidal for his acrylic painting titled “Tulips on Table,” a still-life composition featuring tulips on a rustic table. It is appreciated for its bold use of color and quiet domestic charm. His painting will be displayed at First Bank Texas in Weatherford during the month of June.
Third Place was awarded to Danny Heffington for his thread art “Reveille,” a detailed picture of a collie against a bright sky, creating lifelike warmth and expressive character. Danny’s work is done completely with threads. His artwork will be on display this month at the Fort Worth Community Credit Union on South Main Street in Weatherford.
The monthly competition allows WAA artists to showcase their work while competing for first, second, and third place honors. Selected pieces are displayed throughout the community at local Weatherford banks and at the Weatherford City Hall, giving residents and visitors the opportunity to experience a wide variety of artistic styles and mediums. First place winners also advance as candidates for the Artist of the Year award, which is determined by a membership vote each June.
The Weatherford Art Association is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to promoting the arts and supporting arts education within the community. In addition to exhibitions, WAA hosts monthly artist demonstrations designed to encourage learning, creativity, and artistic growth among its members.
Monthly meetings are held from 6-7:45 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month (except December) at the Weatherford Senior Center, 1225 Holland Lake Drive.
