Parker County and North Texas are no stranger to this reality as statistics show that every day more than 1.3 million people in the Mextroplex face hunger.
Even more sad, nearly one-third are children.
That’s why the Tarrant Area Food Bank and its subsidiary TAFB West exist. Their mobile distributions help bridge that gap by providing nutritious food — and peace of mind — during a season of increased need.
TAFB West recently held a food distribution event at Weatherford High School on June 26. More than 400 families facing food insecurity received assistance.
“Hunger doesn’t take a summer break. Our mobile food distributions provide essential support for neighbors facing hunger, especially children and their families, a critical resource for them during summer break when access to school meals may be limited,” said TAFB President and CEO Julie Butner. “Thanks to the support of TAFB West, dozens of volunteers, and our local community, we were able to provide nutritious meals to more than 400 families to ensure no one in our community goes without food during the Fourth of July holiday.”
With the help of volunteers, people in need were provided nutritious protein and produce food items including chicken, cheese, and fresh fruits and vegetables such as peaches, cantaloupe, and potatoes. They also received water, ensuring families had nutritious food items to prepare meals at home.
Through their regional branches and a network of over 500 partner agencies, the TAFB provides more than a million nutritious meals weekly to its neighbors facing food insecurity. However, they need the support of communities to accomplish this mission.
TAFB officials state that for every hour a person volunteers 150 meals are provided. If you’d like to volunteer and/or donate, visit www.tafb.org/west.
