Aledo’s historic tennis season came to an end with a regional-round loss to Southlake Carroll on Oct. 12 at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center on the campus of Texas Christian University.
The Bearcats were swept in the entirety of singles and doubles play. Aledo’s lone match to go to three sets was Lila Satterfield’s match with Southlake Carroll’s Siena Castro.
Despite the loss, the Bearcats have accolades to show for this year. Aledo finished the year as the first on-campus sport to win a district championship following the offseason move up to Class 6, and the first on-campus sport to finish undefeated in district play.
Aledo also won two playoff rounds, defeating Keller Timber Creek in the bi-district championship and Midland High in the area championship.
Aledo head coach Joe McCoy looks to continue Aledo’s success next year.
“We’ve established a pretty good program; it’s nice that we’ve got great kids who can be successful year in and year out,” McCoy said. “We’re going to graduate a few, but we have kids who’ll step in, and we’ll still be able to perform next year.”
McCoy also highlighted how contributions from individual players and leadership helped Aledo throughout the season.
“We’ve got several seniors that were at the top of the ladder this year,” McCoy said. “Lila Satterfield and Kjersten Loy on the girls side, who played doubles together; they did a great job of competing all year long. You’ve got Ben Kurth and Casen Freeland who were near the top of the ladder on the boys side, who also played together in doubles. It’s all about our seniors and our leadership; how they lead and practice; and how they perform in matches and the attitudes that they have. The kids that are coming up and are new in our program can watch and follow what they do and say.”
