Burgan will concentrate on sports-reporting as The Community News expands its coverage. He will also lend a hand as the newspaper increases its social media presence.
Burgan earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism, with a concentration on photojournalism and public relations. During his time in Denton, he was involved with the school’s student-run newspaper, the North Texas Daily, helping provide sports coverage. Burgan also contributed to MeanGreen247, UNT’s 247Sports affiliate, helping with sports photography, graphic design, and social media management. He also helped host multiple school podcasts, providing a sports segment.
“I credit those experiences covering sports in college to helping me get my foot in the door,” Burgan said. “I’m extremely grateful to everyone that gave me a chance.”
Burgan said he was all about sports growing up.
“As a kid, I was considered a ‘walking encyclopedia’ of sports stats, even some that I had no business knowing at a young age,” he said. “I grew up wanting to work in sports, so this opportunity is a dream come true for me.
As someone who is no stranger to covering high school sports, especially football in Texas, Burgan said working at The Community News is an amazing opportunity for him.
“I look forward to telling the stories of not just what happens on the field or court on game day, but everything in between and what leads up to it,” Burgan said. “I have a massive enthusiasm for storytelling through words and images, and I’m super excited to be able to do it professionally for the first time.”
Burgan was born and raised in Auburn Hills, Michigan, but moved to Fort Worth in 2011 and has lived there since.
Burgan joins staff reporter Jordan Neal as The Community News adds Weatherford sports to its lineup.
“We are committed to bringing unparalleled news and sports coverage to the I-20 corridor in Parker County,” said publisher Randy Keck. Both Brock and Jordan will play key roles on the sports side of the equation.
