At the Annetta Town Council meeting on July 16, the board welcomed Matthew Davidson as council member, place 1.

“What I always want in council members… is to have somebody that’s got a practical mind to them…they need to be educated in what we do, and when we talked I felt very comfortable with that, so I appreciate that,” said Council member Danny Coffman.

“My family and I have been part of the Annetta community for nine years, and it’s truly a special place,” Davidson said. “I’m excited to serve the Town and do my part to help conserve the legacy of Annetta and preserve what makes it such a great community.”

Davidson will be sworn in at the next meeting on August 20.

In other action, the board:

  • Approved the authorization of Mayor Sandy Roberts to execute a letter of engagement with George, Morgan & Sneed for the town’s financial audit year through Sept. 30, 2026;
  • Approved the mayor to issue a proclamation for Annetta to raise awareness of Monarch Butterfly conservation efforts, habitat creation, and preservation. “The monarch butterfly was designated as the state insect in 1995, and whereas thirty years ago, more than one billion eastern monarch butterflies migrated to Mexico. But in the winter of ’24, only sixty million made the trip. In 2022, the migratory monarch butterfly was listed as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Monarchs need our help now more than ever,” said Roberts in the proclamation. Roberts went on to declare August as Mayor’s Monarch Pledge Month in the Town of Annetta;
  • Gave an update regarding the minor plat of Azopardi Acres or 1140 Wallis Road;
  • Discussed an update for the Budget of Fiscal Year 2026-2027. Council member Jim Causey stated they have begun the budgeting process, and the preliminary estimates stand at approximately $1.7 million for the water fund, $450,000-$500,000 for general city operations, and $50,000 for the Crime Control and Prevention District (CCPD) fund;
  • Discussed the Parker County Utility Agency Agreement in relation to Annetta and future water infrastructure

The council also invited patrons to attend the Lone Star Fireworks Festival, which will be held on Oct. 24. It is an annual pyrotechnic fundraiser held at Stasey Field on the B Bar S Ranch in Bluff Dale, Texas.
