The Aledo Police Department hosted its first Bike Rodeo Saturday morning, Aug. 15 at Aledo High School to address concerns regarding bike safety in the community.
To challenge children and teen participants, the department set up an obstacle course complete with road signs. Instructors were also brought in to perform bike checks and educate participants about bicycle safety, rules of the road, and more. Riders received a certificate of completion once they finished the course.
Several other community members set up areas to hand out water, teach trail etiquette, and allow attendees to meet first responders among other things. A police department spokesperson said they hope to hold a bike rodeo every year.
