Ladycats drop hard-fought match to Highland Park

Start district with win over Granbury

The Aledo Ladycats lost to Highland Park on Sep. 4 to drop to 20-7 on the volleyball season.

The game was a hard-fought affair, ending in five sets with scores of 26-24, 20-25, 23-25, 25-15, and 12-15.

The first set was back-and-forth with a total of 10 lead changes. The Ladycats eventually pulled away toward the end, after the timeout, scoring two consecutive points to end the set.

The second set was a wire-to-wire victory for Highland Park. After jumping ahead 7-1, the Scots never looked back en route the win.

Highland Park also took the third set. Unlike Set 2, it was back-and-forth with two lead changes. The Ladycats would eventually tie it at 23, but the Scots scored two points afterwards to finish it off.

The Ladycats took Set 4 to stay alive, but fell in the fifth-and-deciding set to end it.

Outside hitter Kaelee Berkley led the Ladycats in kills with 25. Libero Karsyn Evans led the team with 3 aces, while setter Harper Harbuck finished with a team-leading 40 assists. Evans also led the Ladycats in digs with 27.

Middle blocker Kennedy Christie led the Ladycats with 6 blocks.

 

Ladycats start district play with sweep of Granbury

Aledo defeated Granbury on Tuesday, Sep. 8, in three sets (25-17, 25-13, 25-19).

Outside hitter Kaelee Berkley finished with a team-high 16 kills. Berkley also led the Ladycats in aces with three. Setter Harper Harbuck led the team with 28 assists. Berkley and libero Karsyn Evans finished with 15 and 18 digs, respectively. Team-wise, the Ladycats finished with a combined nine blocks.

Aledo’s next match will come at home against Arlington Martin on Friday, Sep. 11.
