Goodwill Job Resource Center now open

Designed to serve the county

Patrons cheered as the cutting of the maroon ribbon marked the grand opening of the Weatherford Job Resource Center.

Reverend Edgar J. Helms, a Methodist minister and social innovator, founded Goodwill in 1902. "Rather than giving them a handout, he wanted to give them a hand up,” David Cox, President and CEO of Goodwill NCT, said. "In the North Central Texas area alone, we serve 16,000 people, and that is getting people back on their feet, getting them employed and in jobs that will help them sustain themselves and their families.”

The job resource center opened prior to COVID-19, but closed when face-to-face services came to a halt. "We shifted, and we pivoted to online services and virtual services, which have worked well, but we are so thrilled to be able to remodel and refresh the space and reopen it to the community,” Cox said.

Goodwill North Central Texas (NCT) is expanding its "workforce development footprint” with the center by providing "local residents with personalized support to pursue meaningful and long-term career success,” according to a press release. Each Goodwill regional branch operates independently, allowing them to provide "what our county needs,” Liz Confiliano, Goodwill NCT's director of community engagement, said.

Attendees of the center are immediately welcomed by staff and are guided to resources that will meet their individual needs. "We serve a wide range of individuals,” Romney Guy, vice president of workforce development for Goodwill NCT, said. "We work with businesses, and we place people out in the community” by maximizing outreach and partnering with employers.

Located at 1801 S. Main St., Weatherford, the no-cost job resources consist of: free computer and internet access, assistance from job search experts, over 69 different virtual credentials offered, one-on-one career counseling, digital skills training, networking opportunities, job readiness skills training, and referrals to additional programs and resources, according to the press release.

The resource efforts of Goodwill NCT now have a home in Weatherford for all who need them. "I know this is such a great service. It's something that is so needed in our community,” said Gina Hunn, chair ambassador for the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce.
