George Howard Porter passed away on January 19, 2026, at the age of 58. He was born on September 27, 1967, in Denver, Colorado, to George Clinton Porter and Maudi Walsh Fleming.
Howard graduated from Arlington Heights High School in 1985 and went on to pursue a higher education at Texas Christian University, earning both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business.
Following his education, Howard fulfilled his lifelong dream of becoming a Fort Worth firefighter, a role perfectly suited to his courageous heart and servant spirit. For 25 years, he faithfully served the Fort Worth community, answering the call to protect others with bravery, integrity, and dedication. He retired in September of 2022, concluding a distinguished career defined by selfless service and humble heroism.
In 1995, Howard married the love of his life, Kay Johnson Porter, in a garden wedding in Colorado Springs, Colorado. They shared more than 30 beautiful years of marriage, building a life and home together in Fort Worth. Together, they raised two children, Sarah Nicole Porter and James Howard Porter, who were the greatest joys and proudest accomplishments of his life. He also considered Corban Campbell and Payton Springer as part of the family through their relationships with his children.
Howard had a deep appreciation for history, art, traveling, and skiing. But nothing brought him greater joy than time spent with his family. He was a man of endless wisdom, unwavering faith, and unconditional love. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched, the family he led with grace, and the faith he lived out every day.
Howard is survived by his siblings: Michael Porter (Robin), Parker Roe (Jenny), and Tune Winslow (Aaron).
He is also survived by his niece and nephews: Glynn Murrah (Kelly), Mardi Gouge (Dom), and Porter Winslow, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
Howard fought a battle with multiple forms of cancer for more than 16 years. He endured every diagnosis with grace and every treatment with strength - a powerful testament to his faith. He left a lasting impact on everyone who walked alongside him.
