Annetta town leaders showed off their rainwater-collection system Tuesday morning, Sept. 29, officially “cutting the ribbon” with the Parker County Chamber of Commerce.
Joining them were local residents, elementary school students and representatives from the Upper Trinity Groundwater Conservation District.
Annetta built the system with funds from a grant in 2025 from the Conservation District.
The system collects rainwater through a French drain around the town’s maintenance building and stores it in a 20,000-gallon tank located on the south side of Town Hall. The collected water is being used to irrigate the landscaping at Town Hall and to wash down the town’s wastewater treatment plant.
“The possibility of ESD 1 using the collected water for fire protection in an emergency has also been discussed, said Jamee Long, city secretary/administrator. “At this time, we are monitoring the system to determine whether it consistently captures enough water to make that a practical use. The system is not currently equipped to fill fire trucks, but that capability could potentially be added in the future.”
Town leaders also intend to use the rainwater collection station as a conservation education tool for Aledo ISD students to study — which is what they took the opportunity to do Tuesday.
