Bond propositions rejected

Parker County won’t get a new jail any time soon, as voters rejected a $104 million bond proposal to build one in voting concluded on Tuesday. The final unofficial vote total was 14,885 against to 7,145 for.

Likewise, a proposal for a new criminal justice facility failed 15,435 to 6,516.

Weatherford ISD voters rejected two proposals to renovate existing facilities and and add an employee childcare center.

The district issued a statement on social media following the vote, thanking the community for considering the bond: “The district remains committed to providing safe, positive learning environments for all students and staff. Weatherford ISD will continue to plan responsibly and evaluate facility and safety needs to support the long-term success of our students and schools.”

A bond election in the ISD also failed, while a proposition in Peaster ISD to ratify the property tax rate squeaked by with 51 percent of the vote.

Voters in Parker County Emergency Services District No. 1 approved adding the City of Reno to its service area.

The district said this action now brings all of northeast Parker County under the jurisdiction of ESD No. 1.In a statement, “Parker County ESD No. 1 remains committed to delivering capable and effective protection of life and property throughout the communities we serve,” said ESD No. 1 Fire Chief Stephen Watson. “We look forward to a longstanding relationship with the Reno community.”

 

Statewide issues

County voters mirrored statewide voters in overwhelmingly approving all 17 constitutional amendments.

All voting results are unofficial until the voting results have been canvassed.
