City of Aledo Mayor Shane Davis emphasizes the importance of communication among surrounding areas to safely and effectively navigate a period with ongoing construction projects throughout Parker County.

Davis met with Shawna Russell Jones, Northwest Texas TxDOT communication director, on Aug. 4. Jones is representing the Interstate 20/Interstate 30 project and the Interstate 30/Chapel Creek project. She is “a Parker County resident, giving her firsthand knowledge of the transportation challenges our community is facing,” Davis said. “One of the biggest takeaways from our conversation is that communication between the city and TxDOT will improve as projects move forward.”

Jones has been assigned to Davis in a sense, he said, to provide more efficient and timely communication. Davis will provide updates to the community. He has also asked Jones to share information with surrounding areas such as Willow Park and Fort Worth.

Later in the day, Davis met with representatives from Aledo ISD, the City of Willow Park, TxDOT, Parker County, Parker County ESD, the City of Fort Worth, and the City of Aledo to further discuss current projects, estimated timelines, and potential challenges to plan in prevention of problems.

“There’s so many projects going on, and no one [was] talking to each other, and so we just needed to get everybody in one room…to make sure that we could come up with an organized plan so the greater community could travel, get to school, and we could communicate together as one, rather than separate entities,” Davis said.

“We’re continuing ongoing conversations in a greater peace with the surrounding area,” Davis said. On Aug. 6, he met with the TxDOT Regional Transportation Council to kick off “Phase 2 of the plan of really defining future roads, and where those need to be so we have more east, west, north, south connections to places where people wanna get to.”

“As we move forward, every one of us has a role to play. Leave a little earlier than usual. Obey the speed limit. Pay attention to traffic signs and changing conditions. With school starting, law enforcement visibility and enforcement will increase because protecting our students, families, and everyone traveling our roads is our highest priority,” Davis said.
