A great year for Parker County

No titles, but much success

Posted

While there were no state champions crowned this year in Parker County football, there was nonetheless plenty of success about which area athletes can be proud of and look back on with great memories.

Aledo Bearcats

The Bearcats had another great postseason run en route to a 14-1 record. Their season ended with a 56-52 wild loss to undefeated Frisco Lone Star in the Class 5A Division I state semifinals, but not before Aledo had disposed of Saginaw (80-12), Amarillo Tascosa (42-0), Fort Worth Arlington Heights (55-0) and Denton Ryan (43-17) in their first playoff games.

Aledo extended its national-record district winning streak to 135 games dating to 2008. They won their 18th straight league championship.

It was once again another explosive offensive season for the Bearcats - along with a stout defense. They outscored their opponents 775-151.

Aledo scored 50 or more points 10 times, including 80 once, 70-plus three times, and 60-plus once. Defensively, they held eight opponents to a touchdown or less, which included six shutouts.

Brock Eagles

Coached by former Aledo assistant and AHS alum Billy Mathis, the Eagles also finished 14-1 after their 49-21 Class 4A Division II state semifinals loss to undefeated Carthage. It’s the third consecutive semifinals loss for Brock after back-to-back state final appearances since Mathis took the helm five seasons ago.

The Eagles were nothing short of dominant up to their season-ending loss. No opponent got any closer than 21 points.

Brock captured the District 3-4A Division II championship, outsourcing its opponents 259-34 in five games. Overall, they outscored their foes 795-172, scoring 50 or more points nine times and topping the 60 mark six times. The defense held 10 opponents to a TD or less with three shutouts.

Peaster Greyhounds

It was a historic season for the Greyhounds - once again. A year after they won their first playoff game, Peaster won four in 2025 and reached the Class 3A Division I state semifinals before their season ended with a 21-18 loss to Grandview.

The Greyhounds finished with a 13-2 record. After finishing second in District 4-3A Division with their lone regular-season loss being 21-15 at Paradise, Peaster went on a run that included a 17-14 victory in a rematch with Paradise in the state quarterfinals.

The Greyhounds outscored their opponents 468-125. The defense held 10 foes to a touchdown or less and registered four shutouts.

Springtown Porcupines

The Porcupines had their first undefeated regular season since 1988 en route to a 12-1 overall season that ended with a 64-13 loss to Alvarado. They won the District 5-4A Division I championship with a 6-0 record, outscoring their opponents 316-70.

Overall, the Porcupines outscored their opponents 610-198. The offense scored 50-plus points six times, including 60-plus twice, while the defense limited eight foes to a TD or less with five shutouts.
